Toledo Area Family Events: August 2015


August 2: The Comedy Magic of Rory Rennick @ Funny Bone

Do you want to see a magic show? Rory Rennick will be in the Toledo area on August 2 for a family-friendly show. He'll entertain, make you laugh as you enjoy a magical afternoon with your friends and family.


August 3-10: Wood County Fair @ Wood County Fairgrounds
The 144th annual Wood County Fair opens on August 3rd in Bowling Green, Ohio. Enjoy rides, food, demolition derby, tractor pulls and more! Find out who will be this year's king and queen or win the Catch-a-Pig contest!

August 5-7: Kelly Miller Circus @ NW Ohio Locations
The Kelly Miller Circus comes to Northwest Ohio for 3 days. Starting on Wednesday, August 5, see the circus at Clay High School. Then on Thursday, performances will be at the Toledo Speedway, with the final shows on Friday in Sylvania at the corner of Centennial and Brint Road.

August 7-8: Maumee Summer Fair @ Uptown Maumee
The annual Maumee Summer Fair will be held in the historic uptown district of Maumee, Ohio. Visit the Kid’s Zones with a bounce house, pony rides, petting zoo, caricature artist and face painting. There will also be a classic car show, family entertainment and 150 arts & crafts booths.


August 7-9: Ohio Sales Tax Holiday @ Various Retailers
Shop tax-free this weekend at local area retailers! Buy school supplies, clothes and other essentials without paying state or county taxes. Stop by Levis Commons, Fallen Timbers, Franklin Park Mall or your favorite store and save money on back-to-school shopping!

August 8-9: Water Rocket Challenge @ Imagination Station
It's time to discover the engineer within at Imagination Station. Design and build your own water rocket. Supplies are provided. Just bring your creativity!

August 9: Youth Conservation Day @ Tomahawk Archers
This is a day full of fun and learning for the entire family! See conservation presentations, join in a nature walk, learn archery and enjoy delicious food.

August 14-23: RedBall Project @ Toledo Museum of Art
Kurt Perschke's RedBall Project will be part of the Toledo Museum of Art's Play Time exhibition. It will make appearances around the Toledo area over a 10 day period. You'll be allowed to touch and interact with the ball in various ways. Visit the RedBall Project for more information.

August 13-16: Rib-Off @ Lucas County Fairgrounds 
This year marks the 32nd annual Northwest Ohio Rib-Off! Musical guests include the Grand Funk Railroad, Morris Day & The Time, Montgomery Gentry and more. Come spend time with the family and enjoy all the delicious ribs Greater Toledo has to offer.

August 13: Family Movie Night - Wreck-It Ralph @ Olander Park
The Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Family Movie Night at Olander Park. The event begins at 7:00 PM and the movie after dusk.


August 15: Back-To-School Fair @ Franklin Park Mall 
It's time for the 21st Annual Back-To-School Fair! Visit the various booths and learn about schools, clubs, services and products that will help get you in the back-to-school spirit!


August 15: Grand Opening @ Toledo Area Humane Society
Did you know the Toledo Area Humane Society is one of the oldest humane societies in the United States? Come tour the new shelter, enjoy food, play a few games and maybe bring home a new addition to your family.

August 15: BugFest @ Secor Metropark
Prepare yourself for the infestation! You see them everywhere. Now it's time to celebrate bugs at Secor Metropark! See the Dr. Insecta Show and several other exhibits that will educate and entertain you.

August 15: Wood County Air Fair @ Wood County Regional Airport 
This year's Air Fair will have airplane and helicopter rides, vintage military equipment and aircraft, food vendors and more!

August 16: Disney Live! Three Classic Fairy Tales @ SeaGate Convention Centre
Join more than 25 Disney characters as they take the stage to perform three fairytale adventures. You'll see Mickey, Minnie, Snow White, Cinderella and so many more of your favorite characters during this fun family experience!

August 22: Riverfest @ Veteran's Memorial Park
The 4th annual Rossford Riverfest at Veteran’s Memorial Park/Rossford Marina includes carnival games and inflatables, a softball tournament and live music. End the night with a fireworks display.


August 28-30: German American Festival @ Oak Shade Grove 
Celebrate German and Swiss heritage at the 50th German American Festival! There will be plenty of activities for kids including face painting, a clown and opening day parade. Where else can you find 2 tons of handmade German potato salad and over 6,000 scoops of ice cream?


August 29: BUGFest @ Toledo Zoo
Visit Nature's Neighborhood for a day full of bugs! Meet special guest BUGMAN and see his collection of insects up close. Taste honey, watch an animal show, Build-a-Bug and many more activities to make your creepy, crawling day complete!

August 29: Mud Run @ Mud Dog Challenge
Dress up, get muddy and challenge yourself! No matter your fitness level, the Mud Dog Challenge is a fun experience for the entire family! There's a 3 mile course for the "big kids" and a kids wave designed for 5-9 year olds.


August 29: Annual Donut Eating Contest @ Village Plazas
Do you want to earn bragging rights? Enter this year's donut eating contest and prepare to stuff your belly! There are three age groups: 6 years old and under, ages 7-12, and 13 years old to adult.
